Michael Lacey is one of the greatest mathematicians who have walked this earth. The man who was born in the month of September in 1959 on 26th has made uncountable contributions to the field of mathematics. He went to the University of Illinois and attained his ph.D. in 1987. At the institution, he was involved in several projects which included studies on probability.
With the help of Walter Phillip, who was his supervisor, he was able to come up with a formula that solved a mathematical problem that had been troubling people during the presentation of his thesis.
The formula touched on the Law of Iterated Logarithm and the thesis rotated around empirical characteristic functions. He was very interested in probability, and this saw him study a lot to understand the division of mathematics.
After school, he worked at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and also served at the Louisiana State University. During the period that he was at the University of North Carolina, he conducted a lot of research, and this research gave proof of the Central Limit Theorem.
Between 1989 and 1996, Michael was working at the Indiana University and it was here that he studied the Bilinear Hilbert Transform.
He was able to go to the institution through a sponsorship from the National Science Foundation which awarded him with a postdoctoral fellowship. After his previous achievements, it was no surprise that he was able to solve the Hilbert Transform. It had been earlier introduced by Alberto Calderon, and this achievement saw him receive the Salem Prize.
Today, Michael Lacey works at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has been working here as the professor of mathematics since 1996. At the institute, he has made several strides.
